Disability Information

This page introduces the 7 disabilities that are mostly seen in an inclusive classroom.  Educational books for all grade levels are provided if interested in an extra resource for classroom use or personal education use.

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD)

A chronic condition that includes some
combination of problems, such as difficulty sustaining attention, hyperactivity, distractibility, impulsive behavior that adversely affect a student’s learning is the medical definition.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

A developmental disability affecting
verbal and nonverbal communication and
social interaction, generally evident
before the age three, that adversely
effects a child’s educational performance.

Communication Disorder (CD)

A disorder occurs when there is an
impairment in the ability to receive, send,
process, and comprehend concepts or
verbal, nonverbal and graphic symbols
systems that adversely affects
educational performance.

Emotional Disturbance (ED)

A condition exhibiting 1 or more of the following characteristics over a long period of time & to a marked degree that adversely affects educational performance,
ï‚· an inability to learn, not explained by intellectual, sensory, or health factors;
ï‚· an inability to build & maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers and teachers; inappropriate types of behavior or feelings under normal circumstances;
ï‚· a general pervasive mood of unhappiness or depression;
ï‚· a tendency to develop physical symptoms or fears associated with personal or school problems.

Learning Disability (LD)

A disorder in one or more of the basic
psychological processes involved in
understanding or using language, spoken or written, which may manifest itself in an imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations that adversely effects a student’s education.

Mild Intellectual Disability (MID)

A disability with significantly sub-average
general intellectual functioning, existing
concurrently with deficits in adaptive
behavior and manifested during the
developmental period, that adversely
affects a child's educational performance.

Other Health Impairment (OHI)

Health condition(s) resulting in limited
strength, vitality, or alertness due to
chronic or acute problems that adversely
affects educational performance.
